Anaco Hosts Team Member Salsa Contest
May 25, 2016
On May 5th, Anaco team members enjoyed fun times and fun foods at a salsa contest. The salsa contest included 10 participants and 3 judges. The judges, Jose Bretado, Karina Barajas, and Isaiah Gutierrez judged based on consistency, aroma, appropriate heat level, and overall taste.
Participants included Manuela Cesena, Alma Rosa Ayala, Ninfa Ochoa, Raquel Pulido, David Ramirez/Jeronimo Gutierrez, Petra Soto, Armando Rubio, Bodi Mcgraw, and Bertha Amezcua. Though all of the participants did an amazing job, the lucky winners were Petra Soto, Assembler, and Armando Rubio, Project Engineer.
What is Cinco de Mayo?: "The Fifth of May," Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican Holiday celebrating the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862. In 1861, France sent a massive army to invade Mexico, as they wanted to collect on war debts. The French army was much larger, better trained and equipped than the Mexicans struggling to defend the road to Mexico City. It rolled through Mexico until it reached Puebla, where the Mexicans made a valiant stand, and, against all logic, won a huge victory. It was short-lived, as the French army regrouped and continued; eventually taking Mexico City, but the euphoria of an unlikely victory against overwhelming odds is remembered every May fifth.
Thanks to the participants for making this salsa contest possible!
