September 29, 2014
Atlantic States is pleased to announce the winners of their third quarter Passion for Excellence (POE) Awards:
Glenn Gucwa took it upon himself to put the blower motor for the flux vacuum system back together and also took the time to properly refurbish the chipping hammers and rammers. Glenn saved approximately $4,200 by using old part to make the repairs. Glenn was recommended by Chris Cheah.
Maryann Stephen went out of her way to videotape the secondary scale after numerous months of troubleshooting which resulted in a mass improvement in the production reporting system. Maryann was recommended by Dale Schmelzle and Jason Trimmer.
Charlie Perowski identified an issue with a safety latch on a crane hook, stopped production, and took that piece of equipment out of service. Charlie was recommended by Dan Fittro who said, “Thank you for helping us keep safety the number one priority at Atlantic States,”
Wilver Villagran and Seaford Wilson worked together to develop a newly styled nose for the troughs of 4” pipe. The new nose has a more pronounced angle allowing the iron to fall out of the trough and into the mold at a better position in relation to where the mold powder is distributed by the harmonica. “This modification has significantly reduced the amount of trough and mold powder related scrap coming off of our most important machine,” said Justin Squillace and Dan Fittro who recommended the dynamic duo.
Fernando Reyes, Miguel Torres and Oscar Hernandez were all recommended by Dennis Hilsenbeck for modifications they made to casting machine #7 so that the machine could run 5” pipe with no bell. This team fabricated a hold down roller for the spigot end of the machine to keep the spigot end of the mold from bouncing.
Congratulations to the winners!
