Clow Water Republic Engineered Products Project
August 4, 2011
Clow Water Systems (“Clow”) recently conducted a Voluntary Protection Program (“VPP”) mentoring project on August 4, 2011, with Republic Engineered Products (“Republic”). Cleveland area OSHA Director, Howard Eberts, specifically requested Clow Water as the mentor for this project. Because Clow and Republic have similar product types they also share similar safety challenges and hazards. Republic was interested in learning how Clow incorporated health and safety programs as well as best management practices into a heavy manufacturing environment. Republic was able to gauge similar hazards and see firsthand what safety improvements the Clow team had made to address these hazards.
The Republic team included representatives from both hourly and salaried staff. The Clow team included the Safety Department staff, Plant Manager and General Manager who were happy to share their success story and share the lessons they had learned on their journey to improving their workplace safety and how important it is to engage the entire team in the process.
Representatives from the United Steelworkers for both companies also participated in the project.
